How to Use Story Shack’s Taleforge App to Practice Creative Writing

Are you looking for a way to improve your creative writing skills? Story Shack’s Taleforge writing app might be just what you need.

Typing on a laptop with laptop, phone and fruit at your fingertips

The Story Shack has several useful features, including name generators, which are useful for creative writers and D&D players, and a small creative writing app called Taleforge.

We’re going to take a look at the ins and outs of Taleforge, as well as how you can get the most out of it as a writer.

What is Taleforge?

Taleforge is a browser-based app that lets you practice your creative writing. The majority of the app is free, but the pro version costs just $ 5 and gives you access to more tools, customizations, and a wider range of ideas for you to practice.

It gives you a prompt, word count, and timer to get you started. As you start to write, each milestone you reach generates new challenges, such as props and letters to include in your text, and reaching more word count.

When the allotted time is up, you can save your story or continue writing without prompting. The main goal is to put you in a productive mood under pressure.

The Story Shack Taleforge Creative Writing Challenge and Cards

Using Taleforge is simple. Here’s what to do:

  1. Read it Event menu.

  2. Start typing your story, trying to hit the target on the Words card — the timer starts automatically when you start typing.

  3. As you type, keep an eye out for new cards, like Character, To support, and Letter. Including these prompts adds to your score, and you need to click on some of them to mark it as complete.

  4. Keep writing until the time runs out.

  5. At the end of each session, the cards are deactivated, but you can click on the button lock icon to continue writing.

  6. When finished, click Save your story to add it to your completed sessions library. You can share it via a link or on social media, and invite others to take the challenge as well. To delete a story, simply click on the garbage can next to the story in your library.

How Taleforge helps your creative writing

Completed challenges of Taleforge history

When you don’t have a story in the works, it’s hard to stay motivated. Creative writing exercises can keep your mind active and more likely to generate great ideas.

Story Shack’s Taleforge app is the tool you need to stay alert. It’s also useful for new writers because it teaches you how to type quickly and let random ideas feed into your stories.

Even if you don’t use your Taleforge stories in your next book, this is good practice. Being able to quickly tie different themes, props, or characters together can be a huge boost to your storytelling skills, your writing confidence, and your publishing future.

If that isn’t enough, you can showcase your best Taleforge designs and get your friends into action so you can all improve your creative writing together.
